HSA-Alt Range Performance Level Descriptors

These documents provide information on the range performance level descriptors for the HSA-Alt in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. Range performance level descriptors are proficiency-level based expectations for students taking the HSA-Alt. Range performance level descriptors are linked to the Hawaii Common Core standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, and are linked to the Next Generation Science Standards for Science.
Range performance level descriptors were developed because, under Elementary Secondary Education Act (ESEA) regulations, alternate assessments must be aligned to the State’s grade-level academic content standards. However, alternate assessments may assess the grade-level academic content standards with reduced breadth and cognitive complexity than general assessments.
